Healthy Ambiance - Tips On How To Eliminate Fleas

Fleas are parasites that can live on any warm-blooded animal but it seems they prefer to live on humans, dogs, cats, rats and other rodents. They can also be found on shoes, trousers, beds or carpets.

Humidity and temperature are critical to flea survival. In arid areas, less than 5% eggs survive to adulthood while, in humid areas, about 20% complete the cycle. Fleas need 70° to 90°F (21° to 32°C) to survive while lower temperatures slow down or interrupt the flea life cycle.

A combined controlled humidity, temperature together with assuring a proper house and yard cleaning should eliminate the fleas.

Here are some tips on how to prevent, reduce or eliminate fleas:
  • Vacuum and clean frequently. Vacuuming on a daily basis for removing eggs, larvae and adults is the best method for the flea infestation initial control.
  • Steam cleaning carpets also help. Hot steam and soap destroy eggs and kill larvae and adult fleas.
  • Wash pets and also family bedding (if pets lie on your beds - not recommended!) with hot soapy water every two weeks.
  • Brush your dogs fur with flea combs. Flea combs are very effective in eliminating fleas, flea feces and dried blood. Focus on the neck and tail area. After catching fleas, put them in a recipient with hot soapy water for killing them.
  • Bath your dogs frequently and take them to the vet at least once a year for being sure they have not been infested.
  • Flea traps and collars are good to use for eliminating fleas.
  • Keep your yard clean.

Victor M230 Ultimate Flea Trap is a great method to monitor and control flea infestations.
You don't have to spray your house with harmful chemicals, or put chemicals on your dogs. Lured in by the trap's color, the heat and light from the trap's light bulb, and the sweet odor of the bait placed in the specially formulated sticky glue disc, fleas don't stand a chance.

Orthopedic Memory Foam Beds For Your Dogs

Your dogs are getting older. They move slower, don't enjoy to run, jump or play like before. Then it is the time to think about offering them an orthopedic memory foam bed. It is also the case when your dogs have arthritis or hip dysplasia, are recovering after a surgery or accident.

Orthopedic beds offer more comfort and your dogs can rest and sleep better in a bed that diminishes their aches and pains. They are also closer to the ground and your dogs can access it with more ease.

The best orthopedic dogs are the memory foam ones because they offer the optimum comfort and support.
Memory foam is polyurethane with additional chemicals increasing its viscosity and density. It is often referred to as "visco-elastic" polyurethane foam, or low-resilience polyurethane foam (see LRPu). Higher-density memory foam softens in reaction to body heat, allowing it to mold to a warm body in a few minutes. A lower-density memory foam is pressure-sensitive and molds quickly to the shape of a body pressing against it, returning to its original shape once the pressure is removed. - Wikipedia
The memory foam takes the contour of the body and removes the muscles and joints pressure, thus being beneficial in reducing the pains. The body weight is evenly distributed giving your dogs the advantage of a restful sleep. Another advantage is brought by the breathable feature - so, they will keep your dogs warm in cold weather and cool in hot weather.
Memory foam beds are available in different dimensions (small, medium, large) and have various designs like bolster, round, pillow and rectangular. Which is the best shape to choose? It depends on sleeping habits of your dogs. Please, read the previous article.

When buying an orthopedic memory foam bed, do not forget, it has to be:

  • made of materials with stain resistant features
  • highly resistant to bacteria, mold, parasites, allergens, insects and dust mites
  • washable
Orthopedic memory foam dog beds are an awesome solution for the good rest and sleep of older dogs and of those having orthopedic problems.

Choosing The Best Beds For Your Dogs

Choosing the best beds for dogs should be your main concern for making your dogs happy.

Dogs, young or old, small or large, need their own sleeping place, that has to be comfortable. If they don't have something cozy to relax or sleep on, they will find their own place (your bed, couch or an area rug) and you might not be too happy.

A few days ago, somebody has been complaining in a chat about the dog hairballs she has found in her computer. It is easy to imagine what happens if your dog sleeps in your bed or on your couch.

If dogs spend more time lying on the bare or carpeted floor, it might cause their fur to grow irregularly.

Dogs should have their own beds. Most of the dogs sleep around 12 to 14 hours a day. Choosing the best beds for your dogs offer them the rest they deserve. Your dogs need comfortable beds, that offers a tight sleep, a safe and cozy ambiance, that are easy to get in and out of. The best beds for your dogs are the ones suited for the age, size, health, and sleeping habits of your dogs. And this is not all ...

How to choose the best beds for your dogs? Here are a few tips:
  1. Small or large dog beds. The bed must be suited for your dogs. You have to take into account your dogs' size and breed.
    • If your dogs belong to small breeds like Chihuahua, Pomeranian, Maltese, Beagle, for sure you need a small bed like this one
    • If your dogs belong to large breeds like Rottweiler, Collie, Dalmatian, Doberman, German Shepherd, you have to decide if you buy from the beginning a large bed or first a smaller bed and, when your dogs grow, change it for a large one.
  2. Nests, ball or mattresses. For choosing the right shape for your dogs bed, just watch them how they sleep.
    • If your dogs like to curl, then a nest or ball bed is the proper one.
    • If your dogs like to stretch out while sleeping, then a mattress bed is the suited one.
  3. Your dog's bed must be washable. Dogs play outside also on wet weather and jump in their bed without cleaning their paws. They might bring along trash picked from the garbage. You need to wash their beds for keeping them clean and smelling fresh. This is very important especially if your dogs sleep inside.
  4. Heated dog beds. They are a good choice for colder weather. Heated beds keep your dogs warm and comfortable.
  5. Orthopedic dog beds. An orthopedic bed distributes better the dog's weight, releasing the pressure points in the body and reducing the pain. If your dogs are old, have joint paints, sore muscles, hip dysplasia or disabilities an orthopedic bed is ideal for them.
